Thursday at Chautauqua

Country music is the name of the game on Thursday, June 22, at the Chautauqua Festival.

At 6:30 p.m., Runnin’ Shine burns up the Main Stage. With an EP and two full length albums to ther names, Runnin’ Shine has released three singles that cracked the top 80, with “Shotgun” spending three weeks at No. 40 on the charts. The four-piece act is made up of Janice Chandler on vocals and acoustic, Richie Bohr on lead guitar, Bill Snow on drums and Jim Cahoon on bass.

Dillon Carmichael will close out the night with a show at 8:30 p.m. Hailed by Rolling Stone as a force of nature, the Kentucky troubadour rose to fame in 2018 with Riser House, followed by Son of A, a neo-traditional gem that’s racked up more than 13 million streams.

Also capping the night will be some scare tactics. Spooky Stories with Ms. Judy is planned for 9 p.m at the Haller House. Meet at the information gazebo and bring a flashlight.

Earlier in the day, Nate Montgomery will play acoustic music in the shelter stage at noon.

Artist of the Day for Thursday will be watercolorist, printmaker, broom-maker and wool felter Erin Simons. Simons teaches art at George Wythe and at Rose Cottage School of Art. She is a member of Abingdon’s Depot Artist Association, Round the Mountain and West Virginia’s Country Craft Guild.
