Town workers earn Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer certifications

The Town of Wytheville is celebrating a pair of workers as accounting clerks Dara Wood and Janet Lynn-Taylor completed a state certification program to become Master Governmental Deputy Treasurers.

The Master Governmental Treasurer (MGT) and Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer (MGDT) Certification Program is designed to advance the professionalism of the local governmental Treasurer and his/her staff in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Local government finance, like many other professions, requires special study, knowledge, and skills. This certification program sets forth the regulations and standards that recognize professional attainment.

“I am proud of the hard work that Janet and Dara have put into obtaining this certification,” said Michael G. Stephens, Town of Wytheville treasurer. “This program helps my office continue to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to continue to provide the best service to our citizens and businesses.”

With these two staff becoming certified, all staff in the Town of Wytheville Treasurers Office have completed this program. In 2000, Michael G. Stephens achieved the Master Governmental Treasurer certification and has maintained this certification ever since. The overall program is administered by the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
