Wythe trash, recycling centers closing for holidays

Big family get-togethers usually mean you’ve got extra trash to dispose of after the holidays, so be prepared for the holiday clean-up. All Wythe County Trash & Recycling Centers as well as Wythe-Bland Joint Public Service Authority transfer stations will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

“We encourage you to properly dispose of all trash and recycling,” said Wythe County Solid Waste Director Billy Bowers. “Don’t leave it at the gate or outside the facility during off-hours, because that could result in a criminal littering charge.”

After Christmas, Wythe County Trash & Recycling Centers will resume normal hours on Sunday, Dec. 26. Normal Sunday hours are 1 to 6 p.m. The Wythe-Bland JPSA transfer station will reopen Monday, Dec. 27, with normal hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

After the New Year, Wythe County Trash & Recycling Centers will resume normal hours on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022. Normal Sunday hours are 1 to 6 p.m. The Wythe County JPSA transfer station will re-open Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, with normal 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. hours.

All trash and recycling should be property disposed of at a county facility.

“Don’t dump, litter or otherwise illegally dispose of trash,” said Wythe County Code Enforcement Officer Arlan Dunford. “Anyone who sees illegal dumping should get a tag number and description of the vehicle, description of the person dumping and call 276-228-6003 to report it for investigation and charges.”

“The Board of Supervisors, county administration and staff wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,” said Wythe County Public Information Officer Elizabeth Sweeney. “We encourage you to have a safe holiday season, drive defensively and be alert for children and pedestrians out enjoying holiday events.”
