Wytheville PD warns of break-ins at cars

The Wytheville Police Department announced that it has recently taken reports of thieves breaking into unlocked vehicles to steal personal property.

Officers are conducting extra patrols and on the lookout for suspicious persons in residential neighborhoods in the late night and early morning hours.

Thieves like these are opportunist, looking for an easy mark.

Don’t fall victim to these thieves by taking a few precautions:

Don’t leave your vehicle unlocked.

Don’t leave your keys in your unlocked vehicle.

Don’t leave purses, wallets, briefcases, or tote bags in plain open view.

Don’t leave cash and other valuables in your vehicle.

Don’t leave firearms in your vehicle.

Install motion sensing lights on your driveway, front and back doors.

Install a motion activated camera.

If you see something, call 911 immediately.
