Wytheville PD warns of catalytic converter thefts

The Wytheville Police Department has taken numerous reports of catalytic converter thefts in the town limits in the past several days.

The thieves are targeting commercial businesses, hotels, churches, and car lots.

Only one has been reported during daytime hours. All other happen late into the evening and early morning hours.

We do not have any suspect information or vehicle information. We believe the thieves are being dropped off several blocks away and then picked up once the catalytic converter has been cut off the vehicle.

If you see any suspicious activity, people being dropped off, or

people being picked up carrying an object call 911 immediately as it is happening.

This crime wave is swarming Virginia and surrounding States. We believe most of these are from a roaming network of thieves, but that does not leave out the possibility that some local people are also involved in some of the larcenies.

If you have any information on these types of crimes or any other crimes you can email our tip line at [email protected] or call our non-emergency number, (276) 223-3300 and ask to speak to a Detective.

Tipsters may remain anonymous.
