Wytheville Police prepare for busy week ahead

The Wytheville Police Department is gearing up for a busy weekend and following week, complete with anticipated heavy traffic, closed streets and plenty of pedestrian traffic from June 16 to June 24.

Friday evening and Saturday morning: Hot Air Balloons at Wytheville Community College. Please exercise caution and pay extra attention to pedestrian traffic on the East end of Main Street at the entrance to Wytheville Community College.

Saturday at 7:30 a.m. Bicycle Race, The Fast and The Fiorini, will exit Open Door Café, travel on Monroe St, Left onto N. 4th Street, Right onto Fairview Road and then follow various routs. The cyclist will be returning to Wytheville on West Lee Highway in the afternoon. Please watch for the cyclist during these times.

Also on Saturday, from 8:30 to 11 a.m., a portion of Main Street from 12th to 1st streets in Wytheville will be closed to vehicle traffic for two Chautauqua kick-off events.

The kids fun run will begin at 9:30 a.m., going from Open Door Café and finishing at the Wytheville Municipal Building Parking Lot. At 10 a.m. the Chautauqua parade will run down Main, also finishing at the parking lot.

All week long there will be events at Elizabeth Brown Park and Withers Park from noon until 10 p.m. Please use extreme caution when driving in Wytheville this week.
