Ring gets shot at UFC

A familiar face will be taking some punches at the highest level before too long.

A website dedicated to mixed martial arts news, mmajunkie.usatoday.com, on June 9 said that Dana White’s Contender Series Season 7 is taking shape.

The Contender Series began in 2017 and each season has showcased some of the best fighters in the country hunting for a chance at a UFC contract. The new season is expected to launch on Aug. 8, and Wytheville native Robbie Ring will be in the mix.

Ring said he’d been picked for the process, thanking his parents and supporters, adding it’s “time to go put Ring Combat Sports on the map and win this UFC contract.”

Ring will get his chance in the cage on Aug. 22, when the undefeated Wytheville fighters takes on Luis Pajuelo.

Pajuelo is a 5-foot, 11-inch fighter out of Lima, Peru. Pajuelo was originally to fight Tobias Harila, but that bout was canceled, giving the 6-0 Ring his shot.

A hard-hitting brawler, Pajuelo on March 16 stopped Heber Pereyra by TKO in the second round.
