Marion seeking Mountain Dew stories

The Town of Marion, in partnership with “Song of the Mountains” is making history once again!

This time, the community is invited anyone remembering stories of the days when Marion’s Bill Jones concocted the formula for the soft drink Mountain Dew.

A video crew will be in the future home of the proposed Mountain Dew museum, in the former Hayden’s World/Marion Drug Store across from Macado’s in historic downtown Marion on Saturday, April 2, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and anyone who tasted the creations, remembers stories about the  development of the drink, have vintage Dew memorabilia to show, is invited to come tell their part of the story.

“This is a revisit of an earlier production,” said Marion’s Director of Community and Economic Development Ken Heath, “where local entrepreneur Joe Ellis funded a taping of folks telling stories about Mr. Jones and his role in Mountain Dew.  With the new exhibit at Bristol’s Birthplace of Country Music Museum and Johnson City’s recent plaque presentation, there’s more interest than ever in this soft drink with roots from Knoxville to North Carolina to right here in Marion.  We’re hoping for folks to come out, bring their classic Dew gear and collectibles, and share their stories so we can preserve them for generations to come.”
