Brock Hughes Medical Center, Wytheville Farmers Market, Downtown Wytheville collaborating

THE SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA SUN NEWSPAPER AND NEWS WEBSITE

Brock Hughes Medical Center, the Wytheville Farmers Market and Downtown Wytheville have been collaborating, with the common goal to improve the health of our community.

In April, BHMC began offering a Healthy Lifestyle Series at the clinic every third Wednesday from 2-3 p.m.

These classes focus on a different health topic each month and are free and open to the public. Each participant of the class receives a “farmacy voucher/produce prescription” that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the Wytheville Famers Market. The Market, located at 210 W. Spring St., is open every Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., May through October and every other Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, November through April. In addition, Downtown Wytheville has provided multiple “fun loops” around town that can be walked by individuals or families on Saturday mornings while the market is open in order to earn more “farmacy dollars.”

The remaining classes in this 1 st Healthy Lifestyle Series are as follows:

June15-Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness: stroke awareness-prevention and recovery

July 20-Skin Cancer Awareness

Aug. 17-Importance of Immunizations

Sept. 21-Fitness & Exercise
