Cash, firearms found at travel center in Glade Spring

On May 31, while patrolling the area, a Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a subject slumped behind the wheel of running vehicle at the Petro Travel Center in Glade Spring. Initiating a welfare check on the occupant, it was determined by the deputy that the subject was under the influence.

Upon the driver exiting the vehicle, a firearm was discovered in the driver’s seat. The subject was then placed under arrest. Subsequently, a search incident to arrest led to the discovery of a substance, believed to be methamphetamines, and cash on person. An additional firearm and cash were discovered following a search of the vehicle two firearms were located with a total of $14,468 in cash.

The subject, identified as Larry Gene Harless Jr., was placed under arrest and is currently being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority without bond. Harless has been charged with Possession of Firearm by Felon, Possession of Narcotic with Firearm, Possession of Schedule 1 with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Ammunition by Felon, and Intoxication in Public. Harless was additionally served with an outstanding warrant.
