Chautauqua Creative Writing awards announced

The Chautauqua Creative Writing Committee has announced the winners of its 2021 Creative Writing Contest.

In the adult short story category, Andrea Green Burton of Wytheville won first, followed by Cathy Fink of Silver Spring, Maryland. Mayson Keyser of Richmond finished third.

Melissa Edmundson of Creston, North Carolina, won first in the adult poetry category. Bristol, Tennessee’s Chrissie Anderson Peters won second, and Burton, of Wytheville, finished third.

In the creative nonfiction adult category, Chris Pugh of Radford was first, followed by Peters, of Bristol, Tennessee, and Charlotte Roth of Louisville, Kentucky, in third.

Peters took first in the flash fiction, adult category, followed by Burton in second and Fink in third.

Students in grades sixth-12th who participated in the contest included Daniel Asbury, Madison Carr, Emma Faulkner, Caroline Harris and Jaden Privette.

Members of the Chautauqua Creative Writing Committee are Deanna Bradberry, Julia Tomiak, Rebecca Mendizabal Johnson and Kristin Bloomfield Bell.
