Crash kills Wytheville woman, 53

A 53-year-old Wytheville woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash along state Route 52.

According to the Virginia State Police, the woman was a front-seat passenger in a 1998 Ford Explorer traveling south, about a half mile north of state Route 664, when the SUV ran off the left side of the road before traveling down an embankment, struck a fence and overturned several times.

Deedee J. Richmond of Wytheville died at the scene, police said. She was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the vehicle, Thomas W. Ferry, 45, of Wytheville was no injured, according to police. He too was wearing a seat belt.

An 11-year-old male and 13-year-old female in the back seat were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts, police said.
