Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Outlasts Bluefield State

 The Emory & Henry College Men’s Basketball Team (2-3) earned its second victory in three games on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Bluefield State University (1-3) by a 95-88 margin on the road. The Wasps saw five players reach double figures in scoring on their way to the win.

The two squads traded baskets to a 7-7 tie at the 15:43 mark of the opening half but seven in a row by E&H gave them the first sizable lead of the contest. The Wasps pushed their advantage to 19-9 with 11:56 on the clock before a 17-6 run by the Big Blues put them up by a 26-25 margin with less than nine minutes to go before the break. The contest was within two possessions each way for the remainder of the half with Emory & Henry going into the locker room with a 46-43 lead.
The Wasps opened the second half on a 22-10 run to extend their advantage to 68-53 with 13:25 to play. Trailing by 11 (85-74) at the 5:19 mark, BSU put together a 14-6 run to close the gap to 91-88 with 34 seconds remaining. Emory & Henry got four free throws from junior forward Gabe Brown in the final 20 ticks to hold off the Big Blues for the 95-88 victory.
