Film’s musicians to play Song of the Mountains at the Lincoln

Song of the Mountains will present music of the film “The Mountain Minor” on Saturday, May 1, at the Lincoln Theatre in Marion.

Cast members from the award-winning motion picture filmed in Todd, North Carolina, will perform live on the Lincoln stage.

Performing on May 1 will be Asa Nelson, Hazel Pasley, Lucas Pasley, Trevor McKenzie, Cecil Gurganus, Aaron Wolefe, Jake Book, Warren Waldron, Judy Waldron, writer-director Dale Farmer, and producer/musician Susan Pepper.

Also performing will be singer/songwriter Maurice Mattei & The Tempers.

Cost is $30. The show starts at 7 p.m. Seating is limited.

“The Mountain Minor” is based on a true story of an eastern Kentucky family of musicians that moves to Ohio during the Great Depression. When casting the film, writer-director Dale Farmer decided to use experienced old-time musicians instead of professional actors, because he wanted the musical performances to look and sound authentic.

Rural Retreat native Elizabeth LaPrelle took on the role of Oza Abner.

Joining the film’s cast is Maurice Mattei & The Tempers.

A singer/songwriter, Mattei has released 27 records and written nearly 300 songs since 1995. Rounding out the Tempers is Debbie Immesoete on drums and Bryan Berwanger on upright bass.

The band is currently working on new material, tentatively set to be released in 2022.
