Independence gets grant, loan for new fire gear

 The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development awarded the Town of Independence a grant of $25,000, along with a loan of $13,200, to purchase new turnout gear (coats, pants, boots, etc.) for the Independence Volunteer Fire Department. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“Rural communities often face difficulties in upgrading their public services. This $38,200 investment by USDA Rural Development, will make an impact on the town of Independence, ensuring their firefighters have the gear necessary to serve the residents of the town.”
