Marion helps business owners with CARES funds

Through the CARES Act, the Town of Marion and Smyth County appropriated $250,000 to help Marion businesses with some of their expenses and losses due to Covid.  On Monday, Oct. 5, the Marion Town Council approved the very first of the new grants.

Marion’s director of Community and Economic Development Ken Heath presented his team’s recommendation for the long time business to Town Council.  “A&B Printing has lost substantial work, including graduation programs, handbooks, church programs, raffle tickets, wedding invitations, sports calendars, event posters, auction flyers and more,” said Heath.  “This is exactly the purpose that these funds were allocated, and our office fully supports this application.”

Council voted to award A&B Printing the maximum award of $2,500.

“We are accepting applications from all Town of Marion businesses,” said Heath.  “To be eligible, the business must be physically located within the Town of Marion, be up to date on all licensing and taxes, and show that they have losses and/or expenses directly related to Covid that exceed any CARES Act funding they have already received.  Our office reviews applications as they come in, and at each Council meeting, we will make recommendations for additional grants until the money runs out or until we reach our deadline of November 16.”
