The medical examiner’s office has identified the human remains found inside a burnt home Nov. 30 on St. Clair’s Creek Road in Chilhowie.
According to a release from the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office, the remains were identified as 74-year-old Edwards Lewis McGhee, who owned the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials said.
Deputies responded with the Chilhowie Fire Department at 8:05 p.m. on Nov. 30. The fire was extinguished, but firefighters discovered the deceased in the debris.
