Veterans program shines at Rural Retreat

By Linda Lacy, Rural Retreat American Legion

The “Veteran’s Day Programs” were beautifully coordinated at Rural Retreat schools and followed on Sunday by the American Legion ceremony at the firehouse.

After a delicious breakfast, we saw smiling students waving American flags on both sides of the hallway at the elementary  school. So proud!

Next, Veterans shared stories and photos at the Middle School. Refreshments. ALL were invited to step back in time to enjoy over 50 military uniforms worn by women who served during WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, conflicts, and peacetime. A great showcase! Students asked some really good questions .

Veterans received a certificate of appreciation from the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed listening to patriotic songs by the Band and Choir. Wow!

We are so thankful for all of the help from  teachers principals, staff, community,  and friends, who jumped in to make our Veteran’s Day and USMC birthday very special! AWESOME! THANK YOU!
