Warriors, Canes, Indians compete at Bearcat

Chilhowie, Marion and Rural Retreat runners tangled with some tough teams, competing at the March 23 Bearcat Invitational, with several competitors bringing home hardware.

Olivia Crigger hauled in a silver in the 100-meter hurdles. The senior finished in 16.87. Crigger was second, too, in the triple jump, leaping 32 feet, 8.75 inches.

Crigger took third in the long jump, finishing with a 15-foot, 1.75-inch leap.

Marion senior Raegan Cox also brought home silver, taking second in the high jump, clearing a 4-foot-10-inch bar. Cox took fifth in the triple jump with a 31-foot, 1-inch jump.

Cox was fourth in the long jump, clearing 14 feet, 9.25 inches. Marion junior Laken Foutz was eighth in the long jump, hitting 14 feet, 1 inch. Addison Umberger, a Rural Retreat freshmen, finished in 16th with a 12-foot, 7.75-inch jump. Fellow freshman Kiera Dunford of Chilhowie landed at 9 feet, 5.25 inches, earning 21st in the long jump.

Tess Somervell took third in the 800-meter run, stopping the clock at 2:29.07. Fellow Lady Warriors Tori Blackwell and Lindsey Donnelly finished in 16th and 19th, respectively. Blackwell turned in a time of 3:16.36 and Donnelly 3:20.99.

Somervell captured bronze, too, in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet, 6 inches. Mady Heath, a sophomore from Chilhowie took fifth in the pole vault with a 6 foot effort.

Marion junior Ruby Hoerter grabbed bronze at the event, too, taking third with a 13:10.99 time in the 3200-meter run. Hoerter was fifth in the 1600-meter run, clocking in at 6:10.95.

Rural Retreat sophomore Hunter Vaught finished third in the 100-meter dash, posting an 11.81 time. Marion sophomore Isaac George took 24th in the event, clocking in at 12.80. Colten Gentry finished in 25th with a time of 12.84. Freshman Mazon Santos of Rural Retreat was 30th, posting a time of 12.95. Connor Bogle of Chilhowie finished in 12.96, earning 31st. In 36th, Rural Retreat’s Antonio Alcazer clocked in at 13.51. Preston Harrington of Marion finished oin 37th with a time of 13.53, while fellow freshman Kainan Biller of Chilhowie took 39th, stopping the clock at 13.95.

Marion’s Elijah Wheatley also brought home a bronze. The junior took third in the 800-meter dash, clocking in at 2:09.93. In fifth, Chilhowie’s Lucas Hubble clocked in at 2:12.30. J.T. Moore, also of Chilhowie, finsihed in 2:16.56, earning eighth. Talan Hammack of Rural Retreat was ninth, finishing in 2:1827. Senior Mason Lee of Chilhowie crossed the finish line at 2:33.98, good for 17th. In 22nd, Rusy Badziev of Rural Retreat finished in 2:42.91. Sarmat Badziev of Rural Retreat came in at 2:50.01, good for 23rd.

Trey Ward, a Rural Retreat sophomore, led the way in the 200-meter dash among locals. Ward took fourth with a time of 24.45. Marion’s Isaac George finished in 17th, stopping the clock at 25.96. Junior Jake Russell of Chilhowie turned in a time of 26.12, earning 20th place. Miles Harrington, a Marion senior, finished 23rd with a time of 26.41. Connor Bogle of Chilhowie’s 26.46 was good for 24th, and Colten Gentry of Chilhowie took 27th with a time of 26.82. Marion’s Nick Sheffield claimed 34th with a 27.81 finish, while Chilhowie freshman Cian Ratcliff clocked in at 28.31, good for 35th. Rural Retreat’s Adrian Price raced to 36th with a time of 28.49. Coming in at 29.25, Chilhowie’s Kainan Biller earned 39th place. Nate Thomas of Chilhowie finished in 41st, stopping the clock at 30.03. Sarmat Badziev of Rural Retreat finished in 30.93, earning 42nd.

In the 1600-meter run, Marion junior Domenico Bruzzo-Morello finished in fifth place with a time of 4:52.46. His teammates Alex Armbrister and Jonathan Barbrow finished in sixth and 14th, respectively. Armbrister clocked in at 4:58.10. Barbrow clocked in at 5:57.49.

Marion sophomore Tyler Pierce finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches.

Rural Retreat senior Olivia Bailey took fifth in the discus with an 89-foot, 11-inch heave. Marion freshman Madison Justice earned 20th with a distance of 61 feet, 1 inch. Rural Retreat’s Mikayla Wells finished in 21st with a 60-foot, 4-inch effort, and Natalie Testerman of Chilhowie’s 58-feet, 7-inch was worth 22nd. Allyson Keen of Marion finished in 23rd, throwing for 57 feet, 11 inches. In 25th, Rural Retreat freshman Addison Umberger tossed for 55 feet. Chilhowie’s Cheyenne Greer, Mattison McClure and Madison Gwinn took 27th, 28th and 29th, respectively. Greer hit 49 feet. McClure tossed for 48 fee, 8 inches and Gwinn 48 feet, 6 inches. Sunni Martin, a senior at Chilhowie, threw for 44 feet, 1 inch, earning 35th.

In the men’s shot put, Chilhowie’s Bransen Gwinn finished in sixth place thanks to a 41-foot, 1-inch put. Jackson Holbrook of Chilhowie took seventh, tossing for 40 feet, 4 inches. Aidan Broughman of Chilhowie was 11th after a 38-foot, 2-inch throw. Marion freshman Jacob Mooney earned 12th with a 38-foot, 1-inch toss. Rural Retreat’s Brandon Smith earned 17th with a 36-foot, two-inch put. Ethan Whitt of Marion took 20th, tossing for 35 feet, 5 inches. Lucas Shrader of Rural Retreat hit 34 feet, 3 inches to claim 22nd. Grayson Irvin’s 33-foot, 2-inch toss was good for 24th. Marion’s Mile Harrington hit 32 feet, earning No. 31. Caleb Cook of Chilhowie finished tied for 32nd with a distance of 31 feet, 3 inches. Throwing for 29 feet, 2 inches, Luke Montgomery of Chilhowie finished in 38th. Troy Klimko of Chilhowie took 39th with a toss of 28 feet, 5 inches.

Mady Heath, a sophomore at Chilhowie, finished seventh in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 13.93. Diamond Miller, also of Chilhowie, finished in 14.18, earning ninth. Ava Smith of Marion took 10th with a time of 14.18. Laken Foutz of Marion finished in 14.97, claiming 18th. In 19th place, Rural Retreat senior Annabelle Fiscus clocked in at 15.07. Addison Umberger, a freshman at Rural Retreat, finished in 15.43, good for 20th place. In 24th, Chilhowie’s Jayda Miller clocked in at 15.94. Mia Albertson of Marion clocked in at 16.10, earning 26th place. Kiera Dunford, a Chilhowie freshman, posted a time of 16.87, good for 28th. Chilhowie junior Alexis Gonzalez took 29th with a time of 17.08. Josie Couch of Chilhowie was 30th thanks to a time of 17.12. Tiffany Anderson of Rural Retreat finished in 31st, turning in a time of 17.32.

Bella Payan, a junior at Chilhowie, finished seventh in the 400-meter dash, stopping the watches at 1:09.41. Annabelle Fiscus of Rural Retreat took 12th with a time of 1:14.53. Lydia Brewer of Rural Retreat clocked in at 1:21.35, earning 16th place. Addison Umberger of Rural Retreat finished in 17th with a time of 1:21.69.

In the 3200-meter run, Marion junior Domenico Bruzzo-Morello finished in eighth place, clocking in at 10:32.20. Bryson Kelly of Chilhowie finished in ninth, turning in a time of 12:13.00. Rural Retreat’s Scott Meredith finished in 10th with a time of 14:44.59.

Jake Russell of Chilhowie took eighth in the long jump, clearing 17 feet, 8 inches. Daniel Lee of Marion took 10th with a 17-foot, 3.5-inch leap. Austin Umberger of Rural Retreat leapt 17 feet, 0.75 inches, good for 11th place. In 20th place, Rusty Badziev of Rural Retreat hit 13 feet, 11 inches. Mazon Santos of Rural Retreat earned 22nd with a 15-foot, 5.5-inch jump. Kainan Biller of Chilhowie claimed 23rd, clearing 13 feet, 5 inches.

Marion sophomore Tyler Pierce took ninth in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking in at 49.85. Cian Ratcliff of Chilhowie finished in 12th with a time of 52.89.

Junior J.T. Moore of Chilhowie finished ninth in the pole vault, clearing 6 foot, 6 inches.

In the discus, Chilhowie’s Aidan Broughman earned ninth, hitting the 112-foot, 9-inch mark. Jacob Mooney of Marion finished in the 11th. The freshman tossed for 105 feet, 3 inches. Chilhowie’s Jackson Holbrook tossed for 99 feet, 9 inches, good for 15th. Grayson Irvin of Rural Retreat claimed 18th with a 93-foot, 6-inch effort. In 21st, Marion’s Ethan Whitt hit 90 feet, 3 inches. An 89-foot, 7-inch effort from Luke Montgomery of Chilhowie earned 23rd place. Bransen Gwinn claimed 26th with an 88-foot, 6-inch throw. Brandon Smith of Rural Retreat finished in 31st place, hitting 81 feet, 3 inches, and Lucas Shrader’s 80-foot, 10-inch throw was good for 32nd. Chilhowie sophomore Caleb Cook and Troy Klimko finished in 36th and 37th, respectively. Cook tossed for 73 feet, 2 inches and Klimko 72 feet, 5 inches. Miles Harrington of Marion hit 62 feet, 2 inches, earning 39th place.

Marion sophomore Tyler Pierce finished in 10th place in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 19.52. His teammate Daniel Lee took 17th with a 23.79 race.

Marion freshman Allyson Keen took 12th in the shot put, heaving for 25 feet, 8 inches. Mikayla Wells of Rural Retreat tossed for 25 feet, 6 inches, good for 13th. Olivia Bailey of Rural Retreat earned 16th with a 24-foot, 6-inch throw. Natalie Testerman of Chilhowie hit 19 feet, 9 inches, good for 29th. In 30th Chilhowie senior Sunni Martin tossed for 19 feet, 6 inches. Marion’s Madison Justice earned 34th with a 19-foot, 1-inch throw. Madison Gwinn of Chilhowie had a 16-foot, 8-inch put, earning 36th. Mattison McClure of Chilhowie finished in 37th with a 15-foot, 11-inch effort. Chyenne Greer’s toss of 15-foot, 10-inches was worth 38th place.

Diamond Miller of Chilhowie finished in 12th place in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 29.85. Olivia Crigger of Rural Retreat took 14th, finishing in 30.18. Bella Payan of Chilhowie finished in 20th place with a time of 31.36. Laken Foutz clocked in at 32.31 for Marion, earning 24th place. Lydia Brewer’s 33.34 time earned her 26th. In 29th place, Marion sophomore Mia Albertson clocked in at 33.85. Jayda Miller of Chilhowie finished in 34.46, earning 31st. Josie Crouch of Chilhowie turned in a time of 36.11, good for 34th. Kierra Dunford of Chilhowie finished in 35th with a time of 36.25. In 36th, Alexis Gonzalez of Chilhowie clocked in at 36.36. Rural Retreat sophomore Tiffany Anderson earned 37th with a time of 37.23.

Marion sophomore Tyler Pierce was 13th in the triple jump, clearing a 32-foot, 4.25-inch span.

In the 400-meter dash, Marion’s Nick Sheffield took 17th, clocking in at 1:01.19. Nolan Blevins of Chilhowie turned in a time of 1:02.12, good for 19th. Kaden Chappell, a freshman at Rural Retreat, earned 20th with a time of 1:02.46. Martin Widener of Chilhowie’s 1:02.88 got him 22nd. Warren Robinson of Rural Retreat finished in 25th.The freshman clocked in at 1:04.25. Chilhowie’s Nate Thomas earned 30th with a 1:07.18 finish. In 31st, Antonio Alcazer clocked in at 1:07.56. Marion’s Preston Harringson took 32nd with a 1:13.26 time.
