Fire Chief Marc Brade is bidding a fond farewell to the town that welcomed him in four years ago.

Brade was the first paid fire chief for the town of Wytheville and ushered in an era of a paid fire department in the town.

In a post talking about his departure, Brade said that Wytheville Fire & Rescue has accomplished in four years what takes many departments decades to get done.

“We have brought stability to the community regarding fire and emergency medical services, improved the community’s fire protection classification rating, saved countless lives and preserved property,” the chief said.

Brade will be stepping down as chief at the end of the month.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve all of you,” he wrote.

Brade further wrote that the time is right for “another set of eyes and another mouth to evaluate and fight for the future of this department.”
