Wytheville Police launches Community First campaign

Wytheville Police Chief Joel Hash brought attention to the police department kicking off community awareness campaign, “Community First,” in town.

Hash said in a release that Congress in 2009 established March as National Criminal Justice month as a way to promote awareness regarding the causes and consequences of crime and to foster understanding of ways to prevent and respond to crime.

Hash re-iterated that the Wytheville Police Department is dedicated residents, visitors and the businesses in town.

“It is our goal to educate the public on various laws and town ordinances,” the chief said.

Hash said the Wytheville PD hopes to educate young people to keep them out of trouble, out of the system and able to go on and lead productive lives.

He said the town’s law enforcement works closely with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Mount Rogers Community Services Board and the Wythe County Department of Social Services, finding the most appropriate services for the folks the department serves.
