Busy week ahead for Wytheville, police department says

Starting this weekend all through next week Wytheville will be terribly busy will all the activities from multiple events in various locations throughout town.

Saturday morning, June 18, at 7 a.m. the annual Fast and the Fiorini bicycle race will start at the Open-Door Café, travel East on W. Monroe Street, Left onto North 4th Street, then right onto Fairview Road. The bicyclist will travel more than 60 miles and will return to Wytheville on West Lee Highway back to the Open-Door Café. Watch for bicyclist through out the day as they return to Wytheville.

The Chautauqua Festival is kicking off the eight-day festival with a Kids Fun Run and Chautauqua Festival Parade.

Main Street at the intersection of 12th Street will be closed off at 8:30 a.m.

Main Street will be closed to traffic from 12th Street to 1st Street at 9:30 a.m.

Kids Fun Run will depart from the Open-Door Café at 9:45 a.m., run through Downtown, left onto N. 1st Street, left onto Monroe Street, and finish at the Town of Wytheville Municipal Offices parking lot.

Chautauqua Festival Parade will start at 10:00am, proceed through Downtown, left onto N. 1st Street, left onto Monroe Street, and finish at the Town of Wytheville Municipal Offices parking lot.

There will be events throughout the week at Withers Park on N. 4th Street.

The majority of events will be at the Elizabeth Brown Park on S. 4th Street.

In all these areas there will be heavy pedestrian traffic and congested vehicle traffic. Drive through the areas with caution.
