Catron strong in E&H loss

The Alice Lloyd College Men’s Basketball Team (3-0) was able to absorb a late second-half rally by Emory & Henry College (0-1) to claim a 76-69 win in the Food City Tip-Off Classic Friday evening.
– The two squads battled through 10 ties and 10 lead changes during the opening 20 minutes. The Eagles had the largest lead of the frame at 5-0 while the Wasps’ biggest advantage came as a four-point lead after an 8-3 run. With the score tied at 35 with 1:50 to go before the break, ALC scored a pair of fast-break buckets to go into the break, up 39-35.
– Coming out of the intermission, Alice Lloyd scored the first points of the second to lead 42-35. The Wasps cut the deficit to 49-48 with 15:44 on the clock but the Eagles extended the margin back to eight with a 10-7 run which covered 3:35.
– Down by 12 (68-56) with 6:20 to go, Emory & Henry went on an 11-3 run to make it a 71-67 contest. ALC five of the final seven points of the evening to win, 76-69.

Junior forward Dylan Catron, a Chilhowie High grad, chipped in nine points and six rebounds.
