Chilhowie, Rural Retreat tie atop Hogo heap

Patrick Henry played host to the Hogoheegee track and field championship on June 1.

The Rural Retreat and Chilhowie boys shared the spotlight, tying for first with 82 team points each. The host school finished third, followed by Holston and in fifth Northwood, with 16 team points.

The Rebel girls ran away with the title, piling up 151 points. Chilhowie took second with 75 points, followed by Rural Retreat’s 70. Northwood finished fifth with four points.

Chilhowie took the first two spot in the 1600-meter run, and Rural Retreat took the second two. Lucas Blevins nabbed first with a 5:18.34 run. His teammate Mason Lee finished in 6:02.07. Cody Duncan was third, clocking in at 6:37.05, and Cody Harrington finished in 8:10.85.

Jonathan Gilley of Chilhowie wrapped up a gold in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 52.59. Chris Sizemore of Rural Retreat was fourth, clocking in at 54.42. Northwood’s Aaron Mitchell finished sixth, stopping the clock at 59.74.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Rural Retreat’s Lachen Streeby grabbed first, stopping the clock at 43.96. Chase Lewis of Chilhowie finished fourth with a time of 47.86.

In the 100-meter dash, Gatlin Hight of Rural Retreat grabbed third, clocking in at 11.96. Chilhowie’s Chase Lewis was fifth, finishing in 12.30. Northwood’s Dakota Testerman took seventh with a time of 13.76.

Lucas Blevins of Chilhowie claimed first in the 800-meter run, posting a 2:19.77. Lachen Streeby of Rural Retreat was second with a 2:29.20. Cody Duncan of Rural Retreat stopped the clock at 2:47.38, good for third. In fourth, Jaden Delp of Chilhowie finished in 2:50.42. Cody Harrington of Rural Retreat clocked in at 3:32.24 to claim fifth.

Gatlin Hight gave the Indians a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 25.11. Josh Tuell of Chilhowie notched sixth with a 25.85 run. Northwood’s Aaron Mitchell, Dakota Testerman and Justin Zhang finished in seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively. Mitchell clocked in at 28.06, Testerman finished at 29.33, and Zhang at 30.31. Noah Ring of Chilhowie claimed 10th with a 34.88 time.

Rural Retreat’s Owen Chatterton took second in the 3200-meter run with a 17:00.65 finish.

Chris Sizemore crushed the high jump, taking first with a 6-foot, 2-inch leap. Josh Tuell of Chilhowie as second, clearing 5 feet, 8 inches.

Sizemore took first, too in the triple jump, clearing 42 feet, 2 inches. Jonathan Gilley of Chilhowie jumped 41 feet, 0.5 inches for second. Chilhowie’s Josh Tuell nabbed third with a 39-foot, 4.5-inch leap.

In the long jump, it was again Sizemore at the front of the pack, taking first with a 21-foot, 3.5-inch effort. Gilley was second, hitting 19 feet, 4.5 inches, and Tuell finished fourth, clearing 19 feet, 1 inch. Lachen Streeby’s 18-foot, 3.75-inch effort was good for fifth place. In ninth place, Aaron Mitchell of Northwood jumped 17 feet, 0.75 inches. Chase Lewis of Chilhowie cleared 16 feet, 7.25 inches for 10th. Jacob Crouse gave Rural Retreat 11th with a 15-foot, 9.5-inch jump. Northwood’s Dakota Testerman claimed 12th with 13-foot, 1.25-inch leap.

In the shot put, Northwood’s Robert Burkett and Justin Zhang finished second and third, respectively. Burkett had a 38-foot, 2.5-inch showing and Zhang 37 feet, 6 inches. Chilhowie’s Cole Miller hit 29 feet, 1 inch for seventh and his teammates, Gabino Silverio and Jacob Dorn, claimed eighth and ninth, respectively. Silverio tossed for 28 feet, 6.5 inches and Dorn for 28 feet. Dalton Thomas of Northwood’s 27 feet, 1.5 inches earned him 10th.

Justin Zhang’s 120-foot, 2-inch throw earned him second in the discus. Nate Taylor and Gabino Silverio of Chilhowie finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Taylor nailed the 96-foot mark and Silverio hit 89 feet, 6 inches. Robert Burkett of Northwood was eighth, tossing for 77 feet, 3 inches. His teammate Dalton Thomas hit 56 feet, 11 inches to earn 10th.

The Chilhowie boys bested Rural Retreat in the 4×800 meter relay, posting a time of 10:55.22. The Indians finished in 11:14.01. The Warrior crew was second in the 4×100 meter relay, finishing in 47.15. Rural Retreat claimed third with a 49.20 effort. Chilhowie was second, too, in the 4×400 meter relay, posting a time of 3:58.26. Rural Retreat’s 4:01.18 earned third.

In the 400 meter dash, Audrey Gilley of Chilhowie took first, clocking in at 1:05.55. Annabelle Fiscus of Rural Retreat claimed second, posting a time of 1:08.13. In fourth, Chilhowie’s Haylee Jo Harris clocked in at 1:20.33. Ashley Mixon of Chilhowie stopped the watches at 1:23.73 to earn fifth.

Rural Retreat’s Madison Fiscus finished first in the 1600-meter run, turning in a time of 6:15.91. Abby Poole of Chilhowie was fourth, finishing in 8:01.99.  Madison Fiscus was first, too, in the 3200-meter run, finishing in 14:03.86.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Olivia Crigger of Rural Retreat grabbed second, finishing in 18.11. Jade Streeby, also of Rural Retreat was fourth, clocking in at 19.92. Summer Turley’s 23.51 finish gave the Panther fifth.

Tess Somervell led a trio of Chilhowie runners in the 800-meter run, taking first with a 2:50.99 finish. Kayman Atwell claimed fourth with a 3:15.66. Kenna Russell’s 3:23.04 earned fifth.

Autumn Green of Chilhowie finished second in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 14.15. Hannah Manns of Chilhowie earned fifth with a time of 14.80. Northwood’s Abigail Kimberlin stopped the clock at 16.60 to take eighth, followed by Chilhowie’s Courtney Blevins, who finished ninth with a time of 16.70.

Jade Streeby of Rural Retreat was second in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing at 54.97. Her teammate Makayla Anderson was fourth with a time of 58.26.

Rural Retreat’s Olivia Crigger was second in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 30.44. Courtney Blevins, Gwen Robbins and Ashley Mixon, all of Chilhowie, finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Blevins posted a time of 35.52, Robbins 36.10 and Mixon 36.28.

Olivia Crigger’s 4-foot, 6-inch leap gave her third in the high jump. Abigail Kimberlin of Northwood was fifth, leaping 4 feet.

In the triple jump, Olivia Crigger’s 32-foot, 3-inch effort earned the Indian second. Hannah Manns and Haylee Jo Harris of Chilhowie were fourth and fifth, respectively. Manns leapt 32 feet, 0.5 inches. Harris jumped 28 feet, 1 inch. Jade Streeby finished in sixth, jumping 27 feet, 10.5 inches. Kayman Atwell of Chilhowie took seventh with a 26-foot, 8-inch effort. Olivia Bailey of Rural Retreat finished in eighth with a 26-foot, 5.5-inch jump.

Olivia Crigger was third in the long jump, hitting the 15-foot, 3.75-inch mark. Hannah Manns of Chilhowie leapt 14 feet, 7 inches for fourth. Her teammates Autumn Green and Kayman Atwell claimed sixth and seventh, respectively. Green jumped 13 feet 4.75 inches and Atwell 13 feet, 3.25 inches. Olivia Bailey of Rural Retreat was eighth, jumping 12 feet, 10 inches. Jade Streeby’s 12-foot, 4.5-inch jump earned ninth. Abigail Kimberlin of Northwood finished in 10th with a 10-foot, 8.75-inch effort.

Gwen Robbins, Caitlin Pierce and Lakken Hanshew of Chilhowie finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the shot put. Robbins hit 30 feet, 7 inches, Pierce cleared 27 feet 11.5 inches and Hanshew 27 feet, 2 inches. Abigail Kimberlin, Summer Turley and Paige Koening of Northwood finished in eighth, ninth and 11th place, respectively. Kimberlin cleared 22 feet, 3 inches. Turley tossed 21 feet, 2 inches and Koening 19 feet, 10 inches.

Chilhowie’s Madison Prater and Lakken Hanshew were second and third, respectively, in the discus. Prater’s throw hit 83 feet, 1 inch and Hanshew’s 77 feet, 11.5 inches. Summer Turley of Northwood cleared 73 feet, 6 inches for fourth. Chilhowie’s Harper Adam’s 70-ffot, 9-inch toss earned her fifth. A 58-foot, 1-inch throw gave Rural Retreat’s Olivia Bailey eighth. Northwood’s Abigail Kimberlin and Paige Koening were ninth and 11th, respectively, with throws of 57 feet, 6.5 inches and 53 feet, 4 inches.

The Chilhowie girls won the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 13:44.59. The Warriors were second in the 4×100 meter relay, posting a time of 56.20. Rural Retreat was third in the 4×100, finishing in 57.49. Rural Retreat finished first in the 4×400-meter relay, clocking in at 4:53.35. Chilhowie’s time of 4:54.95 gave the Warriors second.
