Marion wraps up SWD victory over Richlands

The Hurricanes blew harder than the Tornadoes, as Marion nabbed a Mountain Empire win, 47-28, over Richlands.

The Marion boys got it done on the ground, legging out just shy of 500 rushing yards.

Richlands struggled on the ground, coming out with negative yardage. But the Blues got it done in the air Friday, completing six of nine pass attempts for 278 yards.

Marion had no passing yards on the night, mostly because they didn’t throw a single pass.

Richlands opened up a lead in the opening frame, but Marion cut the celebration short, with Hunter Robinson running in a score to give Marion a 7-6 lead early.

The Canes went ahead 14-6 thanks to a 30-yard run from Jordan Miller.

Richlands answered with a scoring drive, but Marion couldn’t be stopped.

Reid Osborne found the end zone at the end of a four-yard run. Brody Whitt also put points on the board, legging in a 70-yard TD.

In the third quarter, Hunter again found the end zone, this time at the end of a four-yard run.

Osborne and Colton Branson finished up the scoring bonanza for the Canes in the final frame. Osborne scored on a 47-yard run, and Branson took a 23-yard run to the house.
