Northwood’s boys hung a 52-48 loss on J.I. Burton 52-48 in a Ballard Lee Tip-Off game at Virginia High.
The Panthers clawed back from a six-point deficit at the first quarter to knot things at the half. The tie remained through the third, with Northwood able to claim a 15-12 run in the final frame for the victory.
Kaleb Havens netted 19 points, Drake Maiden dropped in 13 and Eli Williams scored a dozen, leading the Panther charge.
Rural Retreat swiped a 49-36 victory at the expense of Northwood during the same tournament. Havens and Brody Waddle led the Panthers with 14 point eaach.
The Northwood girls opened up their season with a Hoopalachia Hardwood Classic loss to Twin Valley 46-10.
