Tigers take down Maroons

George Wythe’s dreams ended with a one-bucket loss to Honaker at Lebanon High School on Tuesday.

The Tigers avenged an earlier loss, besting GW when it mattered most 64-62.

The loss means George Wythe won’t be making a return trip to Richmond for the state finals. Last year, the Maroons fell to Lancaster.

Honaker came out strong, building a 21-17 lead in the opening stanza and led by five going to the break. George Wythe cut that lead to one in the third frame, but ultimately fell by one bucket.

Reed Kirtner continued to light up the nets for George Wythe, putting 20 points on the board. David Goode put 13 on the board and Shane Huff 11. The Maroons stroked nine from beyond the arc.

The loss caps off a fantastic season for GW, which won a game at the intensely competitive Arby’s Classic.
